In anticipation of the newly restored Robert Wilson and the Civil Wars – unseen for nearly 40 years and completed by director Howard Brookner’s nephew Aaron Brookner – Burroughs: The Movie is the first of only two documentaries Brookner made before his death in 1989 at age 34.
A documentary portrait of William S. Burroughs comprising intimate, revelatory footage filmed over five years. The film was largely legendary for decades until a print was discovered in 2011 and restored by the director’s nephew, Aaron Brookner. Featuring appearances by Allen Ginsberg, Patti Smith, Herbert Huncke, and Terry Southern, with production support from Jim Jarmusch and Tom DiCillo.
“Mr. Brookner demonstrates an unusual degree of liveliness and curiosity in exploring his subject.” – The New York Times
