For more than fifty years, Time & Space Limited has been a place where artists ask difficult questions, challenge accepted ideas, and create work that might not exist anywhere else. Founded by Linda Mussmann and Claudia Bruce, TSL has never followed artistic trends or measured success by popularity. It has remained committed to curiosity, rigorous thought, and experimentation.

Throughout its history, Time & Space Limited has continued to evolve, responding to a changing world without abandoning the principles that inspired its founding. Artistic independence. Intellectual curiosity. The freedom to pursue uncompromising work wherever it leads.

The Mussmann/Bruce Foundation: The TSL Legacy Fund was created to protect that freedom. It is a permanent endowment dedicated to the future of Time & Space Limited, the artistic vision of its founders, and the generations of artists, audiences, and scholars who have yet to discover what is possible here.

A Future Worth Building

The point is not to repeat the past. The point is to make room for what comes next.

The Foundation protects not one way of working, but the freedom to discover new ways of working.

The archives of Linda Mussmann and Claudia Bruce will be preserved, studied, and shared not as the record of a completed history, but as a living resource. They will continue to provoke questions, inspire artists, and encourage new ways of thinking. The Mussmann/Bruce Method will continue to evolve through those who practice it, question it, and carry it forward.

The Foundation also protects the conditions that make this work possible. Artistic freedom requires independence. It requires the time to think deeply, to follow an idea wherever it leads, and to pursue work because it matters – not because it is expected, fashionable, or commercially successful.

Artists need places where they can fail brilliantly. They need places where difficult questions can be asked and surprising discoveries can happen. Time & Space Limited has been one of those places for more than fifty years. The Foundation exists to ensure that it remains one for generations to come.

As the endowment grows, so will its ability to support new artists, new partnerships, new ways of working, and possibilities we cannot yet foresee.

How the Endowment Works

The Foundation is supported by a permanent endowment established to strengthen the long-term future of Time & Space Limited.

Gifts are invested to create a stable, independent source of support. The endowment is stewarded by the Time & Space Limited Board of Directors so that the generosity of today’s donors continues to create opportunities for future generations.

Independent art depends on independent resources. The Foundation protects the freedom to respond to new artists, new ideas, and new possibilities without losing sight of the values that have guided TSL since 1973.

Become a Founding Donor

Every enduring institution begins with people who choose to invest not only in what exists today, but in what will be possible tomorrow.

An initial goal of $75,000 in founding gifts will establish the Mussmann/Bruce Foundation: The TSL Legacy Fund.

Individuals who help establish the Foundation with gifts received by November 15, 2026, will be permanently recognized as Founding Donors.

Reaching our initial goal establishes the Foundation. Building beyond that initial goal creates an even stronger endowment – one that can provide greater support, greater stability, and greater freedom from the very beginning.
