A MESSAGE FROM KIM BARKE, ORGANIZER:

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the live, communal reading of the U.S. Constitution on November 23. The room was charged as we moved through the text together. Many of us felt the weight of how often these principles have been trampled upon, and the discussion that followed was heartfelt, spirited, and necessary. That gathering marked the beginning of our monthly Literature of Resistance book series.
For December’s event we turn to On Tyranny by Timothy Snyder. We’ll meet on Sunday, December 20th at 11:30 AM in the café. Please read the book ahead of time. You can access it for free at the Internet Archive (download the pdf here), or purchase it through Bookshop.org (click here) via the Time & Space Limited Affiliate bookstore in order to support our work.
Looking ahead to January 25th, we’ll be reading Václav Havel’s The Power of the Powerless, a landmark essay in the history of dissent and moral courage. It is freely available here: https://www.nonviolent-conflict.org/resource/the-power-of-the-powerless/
At this time you can access a complete list HERE on Bookshop.org of the 12 books that will be discussed in the coming year for this Book Series.
The full 2026 reading list spans everything from attention liberation to surveillance technology, with special selections for Poetry Month and Pride Month. We hope you’ll join us as we explore the texts that remind us how to stay awake, stay engaged, and stay human.
