Crossing Days
I would cross each day off on my calendar.
I did this because it was a way of keep track.
Keeping track was a pleasure and marking each
day off with my pen was an accomplishment — a complete
kind of sentence.
Days are time as well as numbers.
Decades, scores, and millenniums become
a measure—a kind of ruler to show distance.
What does all of this mean then?
It means what it means and nothing more then.
Four score and seven these words stick in my
mind and somehow never let me go. I keep
hearing Lincoln’s voice enter my head. These
numbers 4 and score and 7 make a time.
How does all of this work then?
40 days and 40 nights belongs to Noah.
On the 3rd day he arose belongs to Christ.
The 11th month and the 11th day and the 11th hour
belongs to the end of a war…….
The corn would be knee high by the 4th of July
belongs to my father.
2 is a couple 3 is a crowd
anonymous is the author.
AND 9 – 11 all became difficult in the year 2001.
And so it goes and so it goes.
