“Loving repeating is one way of being,”
this is a Gertrude Stein line from the MAKING OF AMERICANS written from 1901-1906,
Ms. Stein used repetition -some say- as a means of expression.
Yet for her “a rose is a rose is a rose” is insisting that a rose is in fact a rose.
Ms. Stein was some one we are yet to come to terms with—over 100 years now have passed and she is still ahead of the curve.
Stein’s abandoning the narrative was a good way to introduce the 20th century and we here in the 21st clinging on to “the story”.
Television defies “the story”–we are constantly putting disinformation together as we travel through the sea of channels.
Twittter, facebook etc. all fragments that are constantly imagining “the story”.
The 20th century was certainly beyond the narrative with all of the wars that were “very real”–super real and beyond the narrative.
Ms. Stein is Ms.Stein is Ms. Stein.
