Hello Linda, Judy, my wife and I enjoyed your opening last Saturday evening. As I mentioned I’m a performer specializing in nautical and maritime music. I was part of the quartet known as The X-Seaman’s Institute that initiated the sea chantey and maritime music featured at the South St. Seaport for over 20 years. Our group was featured during the Bicentennial celebration in ‘76 and often performed all up and down the east coast at various festivals. I’m now in Red Hook and have become very interested in the unique whaling history of Hudson and have even “localized” a well known traditional whaling tune to feature the city of Hudson. I play 6 and 12 string guitar, concertina, pennywhistle, and harmonica. I can send you mp3 samples of my music at any time if you’re interested.

I’m attaching a PDF copy of an article I saved from the Almanac section of the Woodstock Times written by Paul Smart Oct. 23, 2003. It has some interesting observations on Melville’s connection to the area and Hudson in particular. I’m sorry I was not aware of your exhibit earlier as I would have liked to contribute in some way…and hope we can work together in the future.
