The G. Hog comes out today…in reality this species belongs to the rat clan. Not sure of skill of predicting much of anything. February 2nd, 2012JOURNEY’S Gennaro/Mussmann in the TSL ART GALLERY
January 24th, 2012Now we have the art show in the TSL Art Gallery on thru. March 4th. This is an opportunity to see two different ways of seeing and thinking and noting the passing of time and travel.
Some travel is through time and space of the mind….some is travel in real time. I have saved my mother’s scrap books from our trips across America starting in 1950. These scrap book pages are up on the walls of the TSL Gallery—here you can witness the journey of that time. Places stayed, things collected, and thoughts along the journey. In addition Linda has put out some of her note books that she has kept for over 30 plus years—in these books you see some similar thoughts of journeys most imagined —these trips were the fodder for theater pieces—some trips went through the civil war, some trips went through the badlands of the mind and created staged works from the late 1970’s starting with a piece called ROOM/RAUM (deeply influenced by Gertrude Stein) to the Civil War Chronicles, to the projects where Clover was invented to be a kind of Chaplinesque figure representing “linda” as she toured the landscape of “DEALS & DIALOGUES”. Check it out…stop in or see it while attending a performance.
Now we are in the 21st century where the idea of using a pencil or a pen to note anything is near dead just like a train ride or posting a letter. time passes.
Gennaro’s work is a series of drawings which are spontaneous diaries of thinking and imagining Jane in Jane’s world…these are daily scribblings that reflect the performer/artist’s thoughts of her time and life in New York City—here you see her travel with the pen noting her musings.
Two very different ways of thinking and seeing. Both use the “book” as a way to record ideas and remembrances and more.

TSL YEAR – END APPEAL
December 29th, 2011Friends of TSL: We want to wish you all a Happy New Year as we move toward the light of a new year.
Time is like mercury it slips and slides through our lives like a thread. We make attempts to translate time as we live it—somehow it escapes us—it is ever illusive— time is/was.
A few last minute thoughts before we are done with 2011. If you did not make a year end contribution to TSL please make it now— (here is the pay pal link to TSL)
http://bit.ly/uyt0D5
Or you can call the office we can take your credit cards (518-822-8448)
or send a check (PO BOX 343 Hudson 12534)
A short list of things going on at TSL. We have the holiday MET Operas on-going Hansel & Gretel & Magic Flute. (Please bring your children)
We have the MET’s Faust one more time.
The National Theater of London, lots of new movies and classics–this week Spalding Gray’s movie. http://timeandspace.org/events
AND theater programs, music programs, crafts and more for our young people.
A new Art Gallery show: Diaries, Scrapbooks & The celebration of the text–regular people writing down the details of life and the journey. Some of Linda’s– Mother’s scrapbooks will be on display. These are 1/2 a century old and frayed at the edges but it is her view of what she saw and how she noted the journeys that the family took as they traveled across America.
Claudia and I want to thank you all for your support of TSL in so many ways.
We look forward to creating many more programs this coming year. Your gifts– big, medium, and (piggy banks) make this all possible.
All contributions are gladly accepted and will be put to work to fuel the engine of art manufacturing here at TSL.
We have been expanding minds since 1973–there’s no stopping us now!!!
Happy New Year looking toward 2012
Best to you all–yes!! you all– who believe that art can change lives.
Linda/Claudia
YEAR ENDS AND ANOTHER BEGINS 2011-12
December 24th, 2011Thoughts of things past. Time is an accumulation of little marks, moments, images, and so on. Proust and Prufrock masters of the time machine. Do I dare dunk the cookie? Time passes. Over a half a century I have lived and now I venture in the the 21st with my 20th century baggage.(goodbye Vaclav Havel).
I think of Orwell today and 1984 the end of the century was predicted in his book. Orwell missed it only by a few years. The 20th Century ended in 1989 with the fall of the Berlin Wall, Tiananmen Square, Fall of the Soviet Union and in the USA the Control of the Corporation over our lives. We know truth is hard to find these days for newspeak is upon us and we look for some kind of truth in the tons of information that comes at us and wonder how lies are manufactured and repeated so darn fast over and over and over and over. “Arab spring” and “Occupy Wall Streets” are they the same? I wonder in my room on State Street in Hudson– as the Chinese manufacture items for our “dollar stores” at the speed of light—what is true and what is false.
What do i imagine as I sit here at the key board listening to the cd that Tadd Gero gave me. We fell in love for such a brief moment and then he left. The gods and goddesses needed him to tend the other life filled with light and hope. Our light here is dark even when light.
Our light has no heat– the Edison Incandescent is dead and the light of “coke” is filling the space of our rooms and our theaters. We long for some warmth in the nuclear landscape of our day dreams. Are we able to rally to join hands and come up with solutions or will we dwell in our solo cubes and search the “net” for a chat with a stranger far way in a place– sacred and safe. Can we linger in space with out a trap door. Can we fly in our minds as we collect unemployment? what will be my job in the 21st century? will I close the gap between the rich and the poor? or will I be forced to join one side over the other? Oh my!!! was hope lost when Nixon went to China or Stalin to the Opera or Mao to the movies?
I think of these things— as the eve comes again— as the music of Tadd rolls into the space—yes i think that we are here for only these moments and we need to make radical gestures…what are these gestures….are they something called life?? What about that nuclear power plant just down the road??? or the fracking just down another road ???and that polar bear what shall we say to her as she exits off the stage called earth.??? what do we say when elections raise so much money and for art there is never enough? How do we think of this and that in a world that is all 6’s and 7’s.
Do we dream of time and space and float with Tadd in another universe beyond our gravity. Merry Christmas.
MAGIC FLUTE ~~HANSEL & GRETEL~~~coming!!!
December 18th, 2011On the holiday opera list are these two favorites. Please bring some young people and introduce them to the opera. This is a chance to get kids interested. In the gallery PRICED TO SELL some great gifts and a way to support the artists who make original things from their authentic point of view. So it is the near dark part of the year as we look toward the coming of a new year. Don’t forget TSL in your year end-giving list of things to do….and if you are not a member it is time to do that—we have the membership brunch coming in January—not to be missed and look forward to seeing you all soon.

Magic Flute/Hansel & Gretel/Rodelinda/Faust & YEAR END GIVING
December 12th, 2011Hello; don’t forget the year end giving here at TSL and just a reminder that there are a lot of operas yet to be seen here at TSL before the year ends. And don’t forget— if you are so inclined—you can give a gift to TSL.
TSL is the place where the unexpected lives and the chaos of art and life are allowed to flourish.
We have new children’s programs coming your way starting in January. Shelly Ley will add now programs and she will return with the music improv. class that just performed this past week on the TSL stage. Bonnie Scott Jones will announce her new class as well for the Spring session. There will be a Shakespeare class meeting as well for teens and young adults taught by Linda & Claudia, Revonda will host a craft session with little kids again, and we will see Bennington College Interns here at TSL for the Winter Session.
In addition there is the Membership brunch on Jan. 22 Sunday. Members who want to help out??? YES we appreciate your volunteer efforts with this great event (call Linda to get involved 518-209-7966). This is a great gathering of the members once a year
and a way to get to know one another
and share some good food
and show support of TSL
and all the programs that we host here for all who come near
and far to enjoy all that TSL has to offer.
In January there will a new art show in the TSL Gallery. It will be the scrapbooks of Linda’s mother Hilda. These books are records of the travels that were made across the USA in the middle of the last century. Places like Pikes Peek, Springfield, Ill. home of Lincoln, Hoover Dam, Yellowstone National Park and more are in the scrap books. In addition my mother wrote about the things she saw from her window as we toured the USA every summer for two weeks.(from the 50’s & 60’s. IN the Scrap Books are all the notes, brochures, motel post cards, match books, place mats from Howard Johnson’s eatery, and little items that were taped to the pages (now yellowed and dog eared) Linda plans on enlarging the pages and putting them on the walls so all can see some samplings of the book now over 50 years old. There will also be some photographs and some objects that were collected along the way (such as STATE PLATES, and so on).
So now there is more and more to be talked about here at TSL. Tonight (Monday Dec. 12) the people’s assembly group meets to talk about the things on their mind. all are welcome. join us.
And see you soon. And don’t forget us when you think of a gift to give or a gift to TSL.
okay always more to do and say and think in this time of radical work.
