Time to Talk: Kathy Kelly
Supper & Talk: Tuesday, October 10 at 6:15pm
$5 members / $10 general
Peace activist Kathy Kelly lives among people in war zones to nonviolently resist U.S. militarism and call attention to the terrible consequences of U.S. wars. She has lived in Iraqi combat zones during both U.S. wars in Iraq, in Gaza and Lebanon during Israeli airstrikes that used U.S. weapons, and frequently visits Kabul as a guest of the Afghan Peace Volunteers.
In 1988, Kathy served one year in a maximum security prison for planting corn on nuclear weapon silo sites. In 2015, she served three months in federal prison for attempting to deliver a loaf of bread to a commander of a U.S. base that operated weaponized drones over Afghanistan. For reasons of conscientious objection, Kathy has successfully refused payment of federal income taxes to the U.S. government since 1980.
Join us at TSL for a supper of Three Sisters Stew ($10 suggested donation) at 6:15pm followed by a discussion with Kathy at 7:00pm on U.S. militarism, how citizens can refuse cooperation with the military, and the humanitarian concerns brought on by U.S. invasion and occupation. RSVP at (518) 822-8100 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
