BOOKS AND MORE

So here we are this week on the big screen live from New York City "a conversation with John Irving. tickets are available via reservations or at the door starts at 7:00pm this Wednesday Oct. 28.
This is brought to you by the satellite.
The same machinery that brings you the MET HD LIVE and THE NATIONAL THEATER OF LONDON.
As for books there is an interesting article in the New York Times on Friday, Oct.23, 2009 :
"The American Booksellers Association which represents independently owned bookstores, has sent a letter to the Justice Department asking it to investigate what it describes as "predatory pricing" by Amazon, Wal-Mart and Target." there is a price war going on to discount on 10 hardcover titles by authors including, John Grisham, Stephen King and Barbara Kingsolver calling it " damaging to the book industry and harmful to consumers.",,,
"the price war began last week when Wal-Mart announced that it would offer Wallmart.com customers who preordered any of 10 of the coming holiday seasons biggest potential best sellers the chance to buy the books in hardcover editions for just $10. Typically hardcovers sell for $25 to $35"
The price war goes on ultimately wrecking any hope for independent booksellers to make any money or ultimately to keep their doors open.
My question is how much do corporations like Wal-Mart, Target, & Amazon want.?
Let's keep asking questions or we will have no more choice. That means no more questions it will all be answered for us as the culture becomes the monoculture of the 21st century. The McDonaldization of the book business.

And on another note. HORSE BOY, HEADLESS WOMAN, AND AIDA are all coming at you and an additional screening of UNDER OUR SKIN.
okay and if you want to have a chance to see my work at the JOHN DAVIS GALLERY here in Hudson, New York 362 Warren Street it is on till Nov. 8.
Have hope.
Linda.
